This presentation will discuss optimizing cardiovascular risk reduction through lipid management in primary and secondary prevention patients. Both lifestyle and drug therapies will be addressed. This presentation will be framed by the 2018 American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Multi-Society Guideline on the Management of Blood Cholesterol, however it will also include data published since the guideline publication. Special considerations for the older adult will be discussed, including benefit vs risk and statin discontinuation.

Speaker: Lynne T. Braun, PhD, CNP, FAHA, FAANP, FNLA, FPCNA, FAAN
Dr. Braun’s clinical and research interests include cardiovascular risk reduction, exercise, cardiac rehabilitation, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension management. She is a Diplomate of the Accreditation Council of Clinical Lipidology, and therefore is a certified clinical lipid specialist. She is a co-author of 2018 American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Multi-Society Guideline on the Management of Blood Cholesterol. She has served as consultant to the CDC’s Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention for several projects. Dr. Braun is an editorial board member for the Journal of Clinical Lipidology; she serves as reviewer for numerous cardiology and nursing journals.
