Position Summary
The University of Illinois Chicago's partnership between the College of Nursing and the College of Medicine offers a new Cardiology Nurse Practitioner Fellowship. This exciting program will accept one fellow in its first year. We are looking for nurse practitioner students who are either graduating in May 2026 or Nurse Practitioners with 5 years or less of clinical experience. Potential applicants must have a DNP degree by the start of the program. Candidates are reviewed and selected through an application and interview process.
Candidates currently enrolled in an adult-gerontology acute care, adult-gerontology primary care, or family nurse practitioner program will be considered. Nurse Practitioners who are actively practicing and within five years of graduating from an accredited DNP program are eligible. Applicants must provide verification of their eligibility for an Illinois RN license. Only candidates who meet the established selection criteria will be considered for interv

Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop expertise in cardiovascular pathophysiology with an understanding of pharmaceutical, procedural, and surgical treatment options
- Use evidence-based medicine practices to ensure quality, cost-effective care
- Educate patients and families regarding cardiovascular disease while gaining sensitivity to the patient’s emotional, physical, spiritual, and cultural needs
- Develop organizational skills to manage a patient caseload
- Develop effective communication and presentation skills as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Perform physical exams and formulate plans of care in collaboration with their supervising provider
- Manage an inpatient caseload using organizational skills
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
- Graduated, or will graduate from an DNP accredited program by July 1, 2026
- Board eligible for the AGACNP, AGPCNP or FNP certification,
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- If accepted, will have an Illinois RN license by May 1, 2026.

- Certification Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Essay on statement of interest, including past cardiovascular experience, and describing how the fellowship will further develop your career goals in the cardiovascular field
- Two professional letters of recommendation are required, with one by a clinical supervisor or supervising physician, and must be completed in the Recommendation Request section, including an email with a link to complete a rating form and upload a letter.
