The Battle has begun - Full Practice Authority for APRNs
Posted over 8 years ago by Karla W. Anderson
As you know, ISAPN has been working diligently over the last 15 years to remove barriers to our practice. This year, we have gotten our message further in the legislature than we have ever done in the past. Unfortunately, we have reached an impasse in our negotiations for Full Practice Authority with the Illinois State Medical Society. For this reason, I am personally asking each of you for your assistance. It is vital to our success that all Senators are contacted by their Advanced Practice Registered Nurse constituents and that you to specifically ask them for a commitment to support SB 642. If you have never contacted your Senator before, it is very easy. Locate your Senator using the link below. Schedule an appointment for a face to face meeting. If you can't meet in person, then please call the office and leave a message that it is very important for you to talk to your Senator. When you meet with or talk to your Senator on the phone, tell stories from your practice that highlight why the written collaborative agreement places unnecessary barriers to your ability to care for your patients. Explain that we are able to safely prescribe benzodiazepines and Schedule II drugs. Help them understand why we should be able to practice at the fullest extent of our education and training. 1
